Yesterday I slaved away on lesson plans so I could enjoy the weather today
with my four legged friend at the park! SO worth it!
This week in fourth we are going to master long division once and for all with the aid of Amber Thomas's Long Division Mini-Unit. Love all of her activity suggestions and resources to go along with it!
*some of the ideas below are included in the pack above, purchase it for more great ideas!
Here's our plan:
Day 1 - Students receive printouts of division flash cards and they cut and bag all the cards. The plan is for students to collaboratively use these cards for 5 minutes at the beginning of each lesson this week and for homework review. This might even be a great resource to take along to the bathroom line for students to practice as they wait!
Day 2 - Students are given a multiplication chart and are taught how to use the multiplication chart to find division facts. We begin the first day of the packet this day with teacher modeling and guided, leading to student independent practice. I will gauge understanding with an exit ticket at the end!
Day 3 - Multiples, multiples, multiples! Collaboratively, students will create strips of multiples 2-12 to be posted around the room, then we will work together to list factors - all to gain skills in quickly identifying multiples in order to raise division fluency!
Day 4 - Acronyms! Students will create their own acronym to remember the steps of long division. We work on isolated skills from the mini unit and I use that handy dandy exit ticket to quickly assess student learning!
Day 5 - HAPPY FRIDAY & HAPPY SPRING BREAK! On this day we zoom in on place value in long division and quotients in the tens place. I will give a short quiz to assess learning before Spring Break and give a second right after Spring Break.
My kiddo's long division skills need to be sharp for our Long Division Project after the break!
